Buy enough bags of potting soil and compost, in a 4:1 ratio, to fill your planter boxes .This makes a nice ,friable soil, which makes it easy for your planter to establish a good root system .Lay down a three inch layer of gravel or pot shards to allow for good drainage .Lay the soil on top and mix well.
